Frequently Asked Questions

What is a birth center?

We think of a birth center as the bridge between a hospital birth and a home birth. A birth center birth provides a homey, personal environment coupled with the skills and expertise of a medically trained team that helps you bring your baby into the world.

What are the differences between delivering at your center and a hospital?

In our center, the prenatal and birth experience is extremely personal, where you are familiar and comfortable with your birth team. During labor, you are able to make choices for positioning, your environment, and more. After delivery, you and your baby are cared for and monitored for only a couple of hours and then able to go back to the comfort of your own home.

Will my insurance pay for my birth center care?

We are actively working to obtain contracts with all insurances so that everybody can have the opportunity to experience the services we offer. You can ask us which insurances we are currently in network with, and even those that we are out of network with are expected to pay a certain amount for your prenatal care and delivery.

Who can be with me during my delivery?

With our center, you are free to make choices that will make you have your best labor and delivery. You can choose who you would like present as well as who you would like to wait in our waiting area. Your birth team will consist of your midwife or OB/GYN, nurse practitioner, and labor nurse/doula.

What are my pain management options for labor?

During labor, we do have nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for pain during contractions while in active labor. Your certified doula/labor nurse will also help to make you comfortable through positioning and support.

Who can deliver in a birth center?

Birth centers are able to care for and deliver no/low risk pregnancies. We monitor you for risk throughout your pregnancy to ensure that our center is the safest place for you and your baby. Certain situations (such as twin gestation, preeclampsia, previous uterine surgery/c-section, gestational diabetes, and others)  are unable to deliver at our center, however, we can refer you to our team of affiliated OB/GYNs for your most holistic and natural option. If you have any questions or concerns, please schedule a time to meet with us so we can discuss your options.
